Planning For Your Kitchen Worktop Part 2

Getting That Perfect Fit

The worktop is usually the last item to fit when building your kitchen so survey the kitchen to ensure that everything is in place, such as your kitchen cabinets. If you have had any plastering done, it would be worth checking it to see if it is completed and dry.

Once you are happy, focus your attention on seeing if there are a decent number of fixing points for the worktop. You want to have atleast one fixing point on each corner. Fixing your worktop is simple, either screw the worktop down from the underneath of the cabinet or use slotted expansion brackets (found in most DIY stores) to allow the timber to move ever so slightly.

A Little Respect Goes A Long, Long Way

Having finished fitting your worktop, oil the top surface with 6 more coats for a durable layer of protection with a beautiful sheen. The worktop is fine to use at this point but we recommend taking a little care with hot mugs, pans, glasses of wine and water. To limit any damage to your worktop, why not use one of our chopping boards as a worktop protector. Not only are they incredibly sturdy, they are beautiful as well and make an excellent trivet for hot pans! Your wooden worktops will then need another 6 layers per day to 48 hours for a comprehensive covering.

If your worktop begins to lose its lustre, simply apply a coat of oil to top surface to bring back the glimmering sheen. You can test your bespoke worktops protection by dropping a bit of water on the surface. If the droplet sits up in a bubble rather than splaying out, the surface is water-resistant.

A little extra care is needed with wooden worktops, if you wish to keep maintenance to minimum. As a rule of thumb, try not to use your worktop as a cutting surface, we have plenty of chopping boards for that! Placing hot pans directly onto the surface of your worktop is also not a good idea. Our bespoke service includes hot rods, which can be inserted into the worktop to act as a trivet and pop out for cleaning.

Our way of fitting and sealing your worktop is effortless, whilst following the after-care schedule means your wood worktop stays beautiful and in tip-top condition with a protective, water-resistant surface.
